My Background

My mom, long ago in 1995, got into a bad car accident when pregnant with her first son. About 7 months along in her pregnancy, my mom lost her first baby boy. With many medical conditions and surgeries after the car accident, it made things difficult for my mother to have children. About 3 years later, my mom becomes pregnant again, with my brother. But these long lasting medical conditions made things difficult for her. Constantly getting check ups and different appointments it seems as everything is going smoothly. About a couple weeks out of her due date, my mom has to have an emergency early labor, and had my brother.

My mother was told that she wasn’t able to have anymore kids and did not want my brother to be an only child; so, my parents put their names in the adoption process. “It was a roller coaster of ups and downs.” My dad says, “nothing felt right until we got a call about you.” After all the ups and downs and years of failed adoptions, they finally get a call from a young lady named Cari, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Once they got the call, within 10 days they were there, meeting the family and settling the adoption. I was now a Brigantino, and I was not even born yet.

Students go through things that might set them back or set them up for failure. I myself at a very young age, thankfully, was able to try and overcome my setback.  My setback, although it wasn’t a setback when I was little, I was told that I was adopted. I was told that at around the age of four but didn’t start to hit me until I was about a teenager. I never really understood or really didn’t care at a younger age. As a tean I just became more and more curious. I want to let my life speak for itself.

My curiosity grew immensely when I was 13 and kept growing until now. I feel the need to know the full story. I take this in my life now, as a motivator and not a set back. Others get confused or worried and crumble. I take this, accept this, and want to make the best of it.
